Level One Ski Instructor Course
Level One is a benchmark in instructorship and is taught in weeks1 to 4. Armed with your Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) qualification you could teach beginner level skiing (or snowboarding with Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors CASI) anywhere in Canada and some European resorts. The only negative is that beginners are only beginners for a short period. Soon after meeting a new class of novice skiers and boarders you’ll have taught them the basics and then they’re of onto the wonderful white stuff like the proverbial ugly duck becoming a swan. You need Level Two to see these guys again in order to teach them and others intermediate skiing or snowboarding.
Level Two Ski Instructor Course
Therefore, after Level One is where the real work and skill comes in. Weeks 5 to 11 sees our instructors training and educating you to Level Two CSAI or Level Two CASI. This optional exam (approx $400) proves your ability to instruct intermediate and advanced skiers (or snowboarders if you’ve CASI) and a thorough understanding of the skills and concepts required to teach at that level - not simply being great on the red runs yourself.
Level Two CSAI and Level Two CASI are pretty much world-recognised, including ski resorts in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and, obviously, Canada. The only real exception is France where the Ecole de Ski Francaise don’t permit anyone to teach unless they have actually qualified in France (a little nationalistic, but hey). Level Two instructors can charge more for their time as they can teach a wider range of skiers/boarders but some say the real benefit (psychological and financial) is being able to take private lessons.
